Job description
To perform technical review and assessments of nuclear activities regulated by the NNR in the areas of radiation safety for workers, radioactive waste management, transport safety, environmental and public safety assessments to ensure safety and reliable design and operation.
Minimum Requirements:
- NQF Level 7 in Physics /Radiation Science/ Environmental Science/Chemical Engineering/Metallurgical Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years regulatory or industry experience
Knowledge of the following:
- Radiation Protection
- Safety assessment methodologies
- Nuclear Safety
- Radioactive Waste management
- Transport of Radioactive material
- Radiological Environmental protection
- Computer Codes Modelling
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough technical review and assessment of new applications and assigned authorisation matters
- Conduct detailed evaluations of authorisation change requests from authorisation holders in line with regulatory requirements
- Provide contributions during drafting or revision of authorisation conditions
- Utilisation of tools including computer codes and calculation methodologies
- Carry out pre-approval inspections where appropriate of facilities
- Contribute to the development of the operational goals, strategic plans, budgets and risk assessments
- Participate in the working groups associated with co-operative agreements between the NNR and relevant organs of state and other forums.
